SenseWare Insights… (part 2)

Excerpts from their 10 IoT Smart Building Trends to Watch Out for in 2019 article (full article here) on Energy Efficiency Mere access to real-time submetering data will highlight clear inefficiencies in your buildings. You don’t necessarily need advanced analytics and algorithms. Mere access to a structured data-gathering platform for collection of granular energy usage in your building will provide valuable insights to all stakeholders. Most organizations have barely even begun to address energy efficiency. Energy efficiency will remain at the forefront of IoT Smart Building trends in 2019. Don't forget to about the small (and not-so-small!), incremental energy and financial savings from using heating wisely. Heat when the pipes call for heat; not based upon the air temperature. Realize those savings with the Salamander Temperature Control System! ...

SenseWare Insights… (part 1)

Excerpts from their 10 IoT Smart Building Trends to Watch Out for in 2019 article (full article here) on connectivity within building systems: "Many believe that Smart Buildings will provide greater connectivity in building systems. Certainly, buildings contain complex mechanical Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems as well as control systems that can improve the comfort and productivity of building occupants. Smart Building technology can therefore provide the means for greater levels of integration between existing building systems. We expect that to increase as open standards continually pave the way. Smart Building technology will go far beyond those concepts, however. Smart Buildings feature an amazing capacity to connect people with technology. Not only will Smart Building technology assist in facility management efforts, but Smart Building technology will also provide valuable insights to the use and enjoyment of the building spaces. Energy efficiency, building sustainability, and workforce management efforts will all benefit." I couldn't have said it better, and it's within reach. Let the patented Salamander Reservoir and Control System technology connect you with your buildings. Your tenants will thank you for it! ...

Two Question Quiz

Assume the photo above is a parking garage in Chicago, IL. There is a dry sprinkler system that protects the lives of the people who park there. Question #1: Is there water in the dry portion of the pipe? Why or Why Not. A Salamander Reservoir can alert you to unwanted water in your system before it becomes a pipe freeze hazard. So, this can ensure life safety for your patrons. Question #2: What are you waiting for? Put a Salamander on your system! ...

Good Enough for IBM… Good Enough for You!

IBM has it right, and we've been saying it all along: use sensors, data and insights for even better facilities management. ...just don't overlook the insights you can get from within your life safety sprinkler systems! (and you can only do that with a Salamander Reservoir!) Note: IWMS: Integrated Workplace Management System ...

Acronym Soup: BEMS

BEMS stands for Building Energy Management System. “As building energy management systems (BEMSs) gain greater market penetration, building control algorithms are beginning to provide data beyond energy efficiency, including details on space utilization and operational efficiency.” (from http://www.hpbmagazine.org/IoT-is-Smart-for-Buildings/) Exactly! The Salamander Reservoir will help save energy by calling for heating when the *water* conditions require it, not when the ambient air temperature fluctuates. Think of taking your child to the doctor when they have a fever. The doctor doesn't check the room to see what the temperature is first, they put a thermometer in the kid to get the reading directly from the source. That's the beauty of the Salamander Temperature Control System! ...

What is IoT?

Great Question.. We hear a lot about IoT, and AI, and this post is to show what it is, and how it's relevant. IoT stands for the Internet of Things. It's a general term for the network of internet-connected devices that can talk to, and send data, to each other. For example, a vending machine equipped with the right IoT sensors would notice that it's running low on Snickers bars but has plenty of Doritos. The vending machine sensor would be able to send that information to the fulfillment company and make sure that Doritos don't get added to the next order, but that Snickers do. no human involvement (with the exception of driving and stocking). This saves time, effort and energy. Much like the Salamander Reservoir takes data from inside your life safety sprinkler system and alerts ownership and management of problems before they arise! ...

Protect your Parking Structure from Winter Weather!

This is a great article on page 17 of the the October, 2019 issue of Buildings Magazine, "Protect your Parking Structure from Winter Weather" This contained numerous preventative measures, and concluded with: "Being aware of the biggest winter weather liabilities - and how to prevent them - can not only help you avoid costly repairs, it can extend the life of your parking structure. And, most importantly, it can keep your tenants safer." However, there was no mention of dry sprinkler system maintenance. With a Salamander Reservoir on a dry system, owners and facility mangers can be notified of water in the dry portion of the system (from dry pipe valve compromises or condensation) before it freezes and creates serious problems for the occupants and for the asset! read the full article here ...
